biography
Umberta Boetti Mussi was born and raised in Turin, where she developed a keen interest in the decorative arts from a young age, with a particular focus on antique silverware. After completing a three-year specialized course in antique European silverware and an additional year of advanced study focused on French silverware at the Collegio Periti e Consulenti in Milan, she joined Sotheby’s in 1999, where she worked as an associate for Turin and a consultant for the Silver Department until 2016.
During these years, she contributed to the editing of the Milan Silver auction catalogs and collaborated with the Paris Silver department, consolidating a deep understanding of the Italian and international markets and the dynamics of the auction house world.
She subsequently continued her career as a specialist in furniture and objets d’art at a leading Italian auction house, expanding her expertise in valuation, sales strategies, and the art market.
Alongside her interest in antique silverware, she has always cultivated a passion for crime and noir fiction and is the author of two short novels. These two fields are only seemingly distant: every silver object, in fact, holds a story that is revealed through its hallmarks, craftsmanship, and the traces left by its owners over time. Discovering, interpreting, and bringing these stories to life is the aspect of her work that fascinates her most.
