BENTLEY ARNAGE T (2002)

CHASSIS N. SCBLF34F13CX09313

ENGINE: TWIN TURBO V8

DISPLACEMENT: 6750 CM3

POWER: 475 HP

MAX SPEED: 270 KMH

BODY: SALOON

THE RAREST AND MOST POWERFUL ARNAGE EVER

Since 1931, Rolls-Royce built a range of sportier motor cars with a Bentley badge.

The silk-smooth and venerable in line sixes gave way to a brand new V8 in 1959, whose successors have powered all sorts of Bentleys in the following decades.

In the 1990s, Bentley received an injection of performance with the Turbo version of the Mulsanne saloon: from that point the range became more and more independent, and around the turn of the millennium the two brands were separated.

Bentley, now in the hands of the hugely successful Volkswagen Group, kept the traditional Crewe factory and the existing Arnage model, which was completely reworked by the VW technicians and turned in a more contemporary luxury saloon.

Built in various versions until 2010, it had a powerful turbocharged V8. The ultimate version was the Arnage T, of which we are proud to offer an exceptional example today, which, with its twin turbo V8, developed all of 475 bhp, more than twice the original power of the Rolls-Royce V8. Its speed was close to 190 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest -and most expensive- saloons in the world.

This car is as good as new. It was delivered in 2002 to an Italian customer, has only 50,000 km (31,250 miles) and has always been serviced by Florence’s most expert Bentley specialist.

The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.

THE SMALL LUXURY SALOON

Vincenzo Lancia was a pioneer racing driver first, then a constructor. He was not an engineer, but introduced many innovations in the automotive industry, such as the 1923 Lambda, first car with monocoque structure, hydraulic brakes and indipendent front suspension.

For many years, the Lancia range had a full size saloon and a small one: the Astura and the Augusta, the Aprilia and the Ardea, the Aurelia and the Appia – later, the Flavia and the Fulvia.

The Aurelia was a very successful and innovative two litre saloon, with the world’s first production V6, indipendent suspension, inboard brakes, rear gearbox, and so on. Its smaller sibling, the Appia, was simpler, with a tiny 1100 cm3 V4 and solid axle rear suspension, but still it was very well built, and very spacious.

Entry was very easy due to the lack of ‘B’ pillar, and the car could seat six.

Its style was inspired by the Aurelia, and was produced in three series from 1953. The Third series was launched in 1959 and had a modern rectangular grille instead of the traditional Lancia ‘shield’ one: the design came from the Flaminia launched in 1957.

The Appia we are offering today comes from this stock: it has driven 85,000 km (53,000 miles) and is mostly preserved in great condition. Mechanically it has been overhauled and the paintwork has been refreshed, while the upholstery is very good and completely original.

The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.

BRISTOL 403 (1953)

CHASSIS N. 403-1404

ENGINE: IN LINE 6

DISPLACEMENT: 1997 CM3

POWER: 100 CV

BODY: TWO-DOOR AERODYNE SALOON

‘… the best motor car you could have bought in the early ’50s was surely the Bristol…” (LJK Setright)

After WWII, the Bristol Aeroplane Company decided to diversify and started a Motor Car Division to produce high class personal cars for discerning and sporting gentlemen. Based on a very successful pre-war BMW design, the 400 of 1948 was followed by the 401 and 403.

With the 401 Bristol, with the help of Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, developed a very aerodynamic bodywork which gave them a very high speed potential. This type of body had been developed by Touring over the previous two decades, and used on many sport and racing Alfa Romeos and BMWs, such as the 328 Berlinetta Aerodinamica which won the 1940 Mille Miglia.

Bristol’s mastery with light alloy technology made it possible for the finished 403 to have a weight of only 1.225 kg which, with the generous power of 100 bhp and the low-drag body, allowed for a very fast motor car: in fact the 403 was capable of reaching 100 mph, a speed achieved only by a handful of specialist sportscars of the times.

Only 287 403s were built, of which roughly 50% survive today.

The car we are offering today was delivered in London in July 1953, and later was in Scotland and Wales. The vendor purchased it in 2012 from a well known Bristol collector, and treated it to a full restoration, documented by many photographs visible on www.stefanopasini.it. It has been driven around 5000 miles since, and is therefore nicely run-in.

It has British and Italian papers and a FIVA A3 certificate; it comes with tools and original service manual.

The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.

A BRAND NEW, ONE OWNER, GTV

The Giulia GT was produced in various versions from 1963 to 1976.

It was a very successful design by Giugiaro, then working for Bertone, initially produced with 1300 and 1600 engines.

When in 1967 the new 1750 Saloon was introduced, work started immediately on a 1750 version of the GT: launched in 1968 as the GTV, it was the first with the new ‘stepless’ nose, specific rear lights, special interior with unique seats with special headrests, and even the leather upholstery was available.

During 1969 the car received a number of modifications, such as body mounted front city lights and normal headrests, and turned into the 2nd Series.

The 1st Series therefore was produced just for little more than one year, and had a richer and unique trim.

The car on offer today, one of the last 1st Series, had just one owner who in 1984 stopped driving her and gave the plates back. The vendor acquired the car a few years ago and restored it completely, to as new condition.

It sports a very rare leather interior, available at extra cost on cars with metallic paint only, and the drivetrain is at zero miles.

It can easily be re-registered in Italy or exported, as all the paperwork is there and the registration number is known.

The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.

VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTi 1° SERIES 5 SPEED (1980)

CHASSIS N. WVWZZZ17ZBW115467

ENGINE: FUEL INJECTED 4 CYLINDER

DISPLACEMENT: 1588 CM3

POWER: 110 HP

UNIQUE ONE-OWNER FIRST SERIES GTi

Volkswagen’s success of the 1950s and ‘60s almost killed it, as it failed to renew its products and was caught with an old-fashioned range.

Looking for ideas, a group of VW managers went to Turin to meet young Giorgetto Giugiaro, who soon started to work on new products, one of which was the 1974 Golf hatchback.

It was a lower-medium segment family car which had a very good handling and soon a group of VW engineers started working on a ‘moonlight project’ of a high-performance version. With a 110bhp 1600 cm3 fuel injected Audi 80 engine, tuned suspension and improved brakes, the 800 kg three door Golf was a flyer. As soon as they showed the car to their bosses, a production of 5000 units was approved: this was to be multiplied a number of times, such was the new car’s success.

The very first GTis were left hand drive only and had metal bumpers, then came rubber bumpers and finally a five-speed gearbox, just like the car we are offering today.

Bought new in 1980 by the seller, it has driven only 32,000 km (20,000 miles). It has the original registration plates and papers, as well as a complete service and warranty wallet: a unique opportunity for those searching for an original and unmolested first series GTi.

The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.
