Nato ad Alcalà De Henares vicino a Madrid nel 1547, Miguel De Cervantes è cresciuto come il figlio di un nobile impoverito. Dopo diverse fasi avventurose nella sua vita, fu incarcerato per appropriazione indebita. Qui finalmente trovò il tempo di iniziare il suo capolavoro su un nobile impoverito che si considera un nobile cavaliere. Nel fallimento di Don Quijote - come nella sua lotta contro i mulini a vento - Cervantes mostra i contrasti tra il fantastico mondo dei cavalieri e la vita quotidiana delle persone semplici.
