After 16th February this will a memorable opportunity to pay tribute to Gianfranco Soldera and his works by supporting the “Soldera 2010” charity project that was so dear to him.

The idea for this project arose after the winery suffered an act of vandalism in December 2012.

On that occasion, the valves of 10 barrels of wine destined to become Brunello di Montalcino were opened. The 2010 vintage was the worst hit and only 450 litres were salvaged.

This led to the decision to bottle it in special formats of 3, 5, 6, 9, 12 and 15 litres, to create exclusive series of all 6 formats and then donate them to associations that support important social causes.

In fact, the Soldera family would like the 2010 vintage to be associated with a positive message, so that a painful episode would leave behind a memory of words of hope and concrete help to those less fortunate.

The “Soldera 2010” charity project started over a year ago and events have been held in London, New York, Milan, Hong Kong and Belgium so far. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the participants, sizeable amounts have been raised.

The history of the Soldera ® Case Basse® winery began in the early 1970s.

Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera nurtured a project to produce a high-quality natural wine and they knew they could only do this if they found a terroir with certain essential characteristics.

Case Basse is an estate of over 23 hectares, at 320 metres of altitude, in the southwestern area of Montalcino, the place par excellence for growing the Sangiovese variety.

At Case Basse, the 10 hectares of vineyards are tended to by hand, without using weedkillers or any other chemical products. The harvest is also done completely by hand and the berries are selected one by one. The winemaking process is completely natural and the wine ages for long periods in large Slavonian oak barrels.

This production method gives rise to very low annual yields of extraordinary quality.

Case Basse is a naturally suitable land, set in an incredibly rich and generous ecosystem that steals the show with its beauty.

Through time it has also become a place for study and research, which have always been fundamental aspects for the Soldera family for ensuring an extremely high-quality product.

In continuation and as a consequence of their commitment to scientific research and technology, the “Soldera® Case Basse® Award for Young Researchers” was set up in 2010.
