Stimolato dai primi fermenti dello spirito illuministico, Pietro il Grande strappò con incredibile tenacia il proprio paese dall'isolamento in cui si trovava e lo portò al centro dell'Europa. Egli promosse il primo giornale russo, introdusse un alfabeto più comprensibile, fece erigere il primo museo statale russo munito di una biblioteca pubblica e fondò l'Accademia delle Scienze. Quest'ultima trovò la propria collocazione nella città sorta per decisione del grande Zar e da lui battezzata con il nome del suo protettore: San Pietroburgo.

Inspired by the emerging spirit of Enlightenment, Peter the Great tore his country from the isolation it was in with incredible tenacity and brought it to the center of Europe. He promoted the first Russian newspaper, introduced a more understandable alphabet, built the first Russian state museum with a public library, and founded the Russian Academy of Science. These amazing achievements were established in the city built by the decision of the great Tsar and baptized by him with the name of his protector: St. Petersburg.
