Lanciata al Salone di Ginevra del 1961, la E Type rappresentava il frutto di dieci anni di esperienze nei quali la Jaguar si era sviluppata da piccola Casa provinciale a protagonista della scena mondiale
L’artefice di questo successo fu Sir William Lyons, fondatore e dell’azienda. Le sue macchine da corsa avrebbero dato vita alla mitica E Type, grazie ad uno specialista che Lyons aveva ‘rubato’ all’industria aeronautica: Malcolm Sayer.
La “E” aveva una scocca centrale alla quale era imbullonato un leggero traliccio di tubi che sosteneva il motore e la sospensione anteriore. Al retrotreno, una sofisticata unità che fungeva da trasmissione e sospensione indipendente.
La 1° Serie nacque con il collaudato motore 3.8 bialbero, cresciuto poi a 4.2 nel 1964. La Seconda Serie fu prodotta dal 1967, ed era caratterizzata da luci più potenti e visibili, da una maggiore attenzione alla sicurezza, e da un miglior raffreddamento.
Se non fosse stata prodotta in così tanti esemplari, oggi la E Type sarebbe sicuramente tra le vetture più valutate del mercato: d’altronde anche Enzo Ferrari la definì “la più bella automobile del mondo”, nel libro-intervista di Gino Rancati.
Ancora oggi, una E Type in ordine offre prestazioni esaltanti, ed al tempo stesso ha una grande comodità (dovuta alla sua sofisticata sospensione, in tutto simile a quella delle grandi berline di lusso Jaguar) che consente di affrontare viaggi lunghi senza problemi.
La vettura offerta oggi originariamente fu venduta in America. Importata negli anni ’90, fu restaurata in Italia, con qualche licenza poetica, come il rivestimento del cruscotto in pelle tipo ‘pekari’ invece che nel normale vinile nero. Immatricolata come “Auto d’Epoca” nel 1994, è stata usata regolarmente, come attestato dalle revisioni effettuate.
Una E Type coupé nera in Italia non può non far pensare a Diabolik: infatti questa auto è stata usata nelle riprese di un nuovo film che sarà presentato a fine anno. Una soddisfazione in più per chi riuscirà ad aggiudicarsi questa splendida coupé.
La vettura è in ottime condizioni meccaniche, ma per sicurezza consigliamo all’acquirente di sottoporla a un controllo e di sostituire i fluidi, i filtri e particolari deperibili.

The launch of the E Type in 1961 was the fruit of a ten year development process during which Sir William Lyons established his Company on the markets as well as on the race tracks.
Like the racing “D Type”, the E Type had a centre-rear monocoque and a square tube front structure, in addition it received Jaguar’s very sophisticated rear suspension module. The man behind its success was Malcolm Sayer.
This model was born with a 3.8 version of the XK engine, then bored to 4.2 in 1964. Later a few body and interior changes gave life to the Second Series, with better lights and a safer cockpit.
Had it not been produced in such numbers (around 70,000 units), the E Type would surely be one of the most valuable cars ever: Enzo Ferrari himself told journalist Gino Rancati that it was “the most beautiful car in the world”.
Even today, a good E Type like this offers exciting performance, and yet is very comfortable due to its advanced suspension.
The E Type on offer today was originally sold in America, then imported and restored in Italy in the 1990s. In the restoration some modifications were carried out, fir instance part of the upholstery is in pigskin instead of vinyl. It was registered in Italy in 1994 and has been regularly used ever since, as testified by the ‘MOT’ stickers on the libretto.
The vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.
