THE BIGGEST-ENGINED SL R107

After the 1950’s 300SL and its smaller sibling the 190SL, in 1963 Mercedes-Benz launched the 230SL “Pagoda Roof” aka W113. This beautiful car, designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq, was in turn superseded in 1971 by the R107 Series.

It was launched at the Paris Motor Show and it was the first Mercedes roadster with a V8, a clear hint at its main market, the USA.

The 350SL had a power of 205 hp, and many conaisseurs say that the best version of the series was the 240hp 500SL. But surely the sexiest was the big engined 560SL which was true to the American saying: “There is no replacement for cubic inch displacement”. With this monster engine, the SL had ‘just’ 227hp (in US tune) but a great torque of 373 Nm.

Very few units were sold in Europe, therefore some enthusiasts went stateside to search a good 560SL. The car we offer today was imported a few years ago and completely renovated.

It is in perfect condition and comes with its original steering wheel, should the new owner put it back on.

This vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition but for safety reasons, we advise the purchaser to have it checked over and to replace the fluids, filters and perishable elements.
