Montata entro cornice di ca. 750 x 590 mm. Nel 1681, il cardinale d’Estrées, ambasciatore francese di Luigi XIV a Roma, chiamò Coronelli a Parigi per costruire due grandi globi destinati ad abbellire la Biblioteca della Reggia di Versailles. Per realizzare i due globi (aventi ciascuno un diametro di 382 cm), ad oggi appartenenti alla Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Coronelli si avvalse della collaborazione di diversi cartografi, geografi e artisti ed ebbe accesso a tutte le più recenti scoperte geografiche, leggendo personalmente i diari di viaggio degli esploratori che narravano di Terre non ancora totalmente indagate.

In 1681, Cardinal d’Estrées, Louis XIV’s French ambassador to Rome, called Coronelli to Paris to build two large globes intended to embellish the Library of the Palace of Versailles. To create the two globes (each having a diameter of 382 cm), now belonging to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Coronelli made use of the collaboration of various cartographers, geographers and artists and had access to all the most recent geographical discoveries.
